Members of the Alpha Debate Team participated in the Lower Mainland Regional Debate Tournament at Charles Best School on January 16, 2016. The team finished with 11 individual and team awards. Plus members of the team earned places to compete in the Provincial Debate Tournament this spring. Well done Alpha!
The Junior and Senior teams recently participated in the Lord Byng Debate Tournament. Alpha’s team of about 20 members practice skills in public speaking, formulating arguments and thinking quickly on the spot. In a three round tournament, a team first argues in support of a proposition. Then in round two, the team switches sides argues against the same proposition. In the third round, teams are given a topic and have 15 minutes to prepare their arguments. Judges rate speakers on organization, delivery, and ability to ask and answer questions during each 45 minute debate round. Debating is fast paced and challenging.
