Alpha Olympian

The Olympian is Alpha’s top award given to a Grade 12 student who displays leadership qualities, kindness, consideration and humanitarianism, maintains at least a C+ average and is involved in athletics and service to the school. The recipient is nominated by the staff and must be an exemplary citizen.

Athletic Awards

Students participating in the athletic programs, intramural/extramural, can achieve credits toward athletic awards. Credits are awarded for participation, good sportsmanship and commitment. Junior and Senior Athlete of the Year awards are presented at the School Recognition Ceremony in June.

Department Awards

Top students in each department are recognized at the School Recognition Ceremony held in June.

Gold Cord: Five Year Honour Roll Award

A five-year honour roll award will be presented based on honour roll standing on the final report for each year in grade 8-11 and for honour roll standing in Terms 1 and 2 in grade 12.

Passport to Education Program

Up to the top 30% of the students in grades 10-12 are awarded Passport credits that reduce educational costs at post-secondary and job training programs after they graduate. If won in all 3 years the value is $1,000.00. Stamps are awarded at the end of the school year. Grade 10- 11 students are notified by letter in August if they are recipients of the credits. Grade 12 students are notified by mail in August following their Provincial Exam results if they have qualified. If courses with less than 4 credits are considered in the grade point averages, they must be weighted accordingly.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Each student must submit a school application form in order to be considered for eligibility to receive a scholarship(s) or bursary (financial aid). Regular meetings are held with Grade 12s to review available awards and application procedures.

Service Awards

Recipients of service awards are nominated by staff for outstanding service to the school throughout the year. Students who receive this award have given many hours of service outside the regular school day. Service award record sheets are available for students through the school Library.
